Hey it's 2010 and I haven't posted here in a while. Not that anyone follows this, and it's mostly just a spot to practice writing random bits of reflective ideas and thoughts. Lots of things between last post occurred so here's a quick recap of major highlights:

Winter/Spring 2008:
PMPEE (and work mostly took up time for the first half of 2008, but I also applied to the MSIM program mid-year and was accepted to start fall 2008).

Summer 2008: I purchased a condo. It was a new experience in home buying. Soo much paperwork, but definitely worth the learning experience. Time spent researching is helpful.

Fall/Winter Dec 2008:
Orientation for the execMSIM program started nice classy event where we all introduced ourselves listened to some talks and had wine & cheese on the evening. Starting off fall quarter with a fun Saturday morning event in Walker Ames Kane hall, with much ado about the program and speakers. Friday evening & Saturday classes take up the weekends and full-time work is just full of tool testing and documentation.

Winter/Spring 2009:
Lots of interesting opportunities this quarter, meeting a German born prof Jochen and assigned a group of fun individuals. Taxonomy class that comes back to use hmm a year later.
Life consumed by colleagues, co-workers, new condo, family, work, deliverables, and hobbies. Start-up this silly Heelys thing.

Summer 2009:
Take easy DB course then prepare to be bridesmaid and trip to Germany.
Make a week stop in Andover, MA, to see mom's family, cousins, in-laws, and family friends before spending month of September in Germany for class trip on info management in central europe >> Munchen, Neuschwanstein, Austria, Oktoberfest, Berlin.

Fall/Winter 2009
Start fall courses, finish up Germany deliverables, catch up with work...then, fracture neck before Halloween...Spend rest of the season recovering at home.

Winter/Spring 2010:
Continue to heal neck, partially back to work & school stuff. More updates later...on healing process since it's definitely (well so you hope) once in a lifetime events.

I dug this up after a co-worker finally gave me a link to another co-worker's blog. It's sad, but I think my Facebook account sees more action than this spot. :'-(

It's been a long time since I've updated this blog, but this will always be the first blog I ever used and it's free so I don't seem the harm in keeping it around. Changed the title, theme, and other things. Not quite completely customized yet, but it's almost there.

Eh...hehe. I did mention to blog daily... Oh well, this is still more often than none.

Social Ideas - On Teamwork:
I'm not the leader type, but somehow I get leader roles in groups just cuz I want stuff to be done... Is that really all it takes? Oh, and I appear to be pretty responsible, which I am as in I get things turned in on time and such. Stuff I've learned so far in managing a larger group (I've managed a 3 person group which was me and two others but this time it's 6!!!). Having more than 1 meeting a week is the best way to go. Really, if it wasn't for the times and locations I setup and reserved I think it'd be hard to get people to meet. Even so I guess we worked pretty well together, no internal conflicts like I had with the 3 person group (near cat fight stuff...>^.^<;;). Strangely I get the feeling from people that not many people want to be a leader due to the responsibilities it entails. Though I would definitely not be the best leader, in academics I really can reflect and see where I could improve. For one, I'm not the best at commandeering to people to get on task...As both a plus and a minus I'm flexible, as in I'm willing to bend the rules to accomodate other's needs. But, I did go out of my way to update members who were absent at the meetings. Developing an agenda is always good, but it needs to be flexible and include time for discussion. Long agendas are never kept as people like to engage their opinions and such. I was really happy that due to the biweekly meetings that in class my group actively had questions for the prof for their parts of the project, while other groups didn't have as many...so it seemed. Open discussion with a couple main tasks on the agenda makes for pretty good group meetings, especially the time where if you found something from your part of the project you could discuss with the group problems and ideas. Kinda like we are all peers and no one is really more capable than any other. Less tension to get those tasks discussed and such. Clarity is something I found I wasn't so keen on... heh... Clarity in task assignments and clarity in due dates and such, more of the commandeering stuff I lack. What I would improve or do again...if I could start over?
1. Schedule bi-weekly meetings at least more if possible.
2. Define a deadline schedule and stick to it and threaten bad karma or something if they don't, but if something does come up tell them to give the group 2 weeks notice so as to re-assign responsibilities for their assigned task. Oooh, have everyone choose a backup buddy more than one backup buddy ok for odd numbered groups!!! Even a leader has a backup leader. :]
3. Create short attainable agendas and leave room for group discussions
4. Assign tasks that fit the person and brings out the best in them. :]
5. Meet more with manager (instructor, boss) to verify project requirements (best meeting times done in step 2, the earlier the better)
6. Leader needs to touch base with manager often as possible by both.
7. Keep optimistic and listen to everyone's opinion.
8. Have fun! And when project over, always bring out the champagne (party-time!).

Techie Idea:
So I was walking down across campus and put on my new www.fromtheblue.com earmuffies and I thought how it could totally be a wireless audio device. All I'd need was a simple storage device with memory that could send signals via bluetooth or wireless, a receiver with memory enough to store some firmware and 2 songs, and audio output capabilities. The storage device could be like Ipod size and store gigs of songs, which firmware could control on/off, play, stop, and sending songs via wireless. You'd think there'd be delay in sending as it is wireless, but the receiver could store 2 songs, so that it dynamically updates the current song to play and the next one. That's where the space to store firmware comes in... Anyway, this is totally a feasible project for anyone with time and money to do nowadays. This would be my project, except I have no time and not a spare penny... (eh, hehe holiday season) Anyway, just an idea that occured to me. Turns out my earmuffies have pockets to insert audio output devices actually. pretty neat, if you ask me. Only $20.00 US where I got it, kinda pricey for just a pair of these but I like them and they make a pretty cool...err warm Christmas present. I have the white chenille versions if you really wanted to know.
It's been a while since I've posted, but I've thought of a new way to do this more on a daily basis...we'll see how this turns out. For me blogs are a way for me to practice my writing and typing since my major isn't exactly journalism and lets just say the most I've typed is for reports and code...bits of code and coding for me is mostly copy and paste anyway. Soooo, I'm going to try writing EVERYDAY... How? Well, diaries are private and with rampant IP violations and lack of regulation on this type of stuff I've decided not to explain what happens everyday in the life yours truly...instead I'll try regurgitating ideas I've had in my head for a while. Since not many people read this anyway, I hope no one steals my ideas... or please give me credit if you do decide to "borrow" them. This is a medium for me to spew out my creativity and technical side. So from henceforth, I swear that I will post day to day or at least so long as I have access to the internet without too much cost. ~Peace!
